Happy new year friends!
How is it possible another year has slipped away? For many, 2017 was filled with challenges—including failing health, and for some, the heartache of losing precious loved ones. With so much unrest in our country and the world, it would be easy to be swallowed up and overcome by depression or hopelessness if we dwell there. And it’s no different for me—sometimes the pain of loss is so great it’s hard to breathe—much less imagine ever feeling “normal” again. It’s these times that I am reminded of the grace and blessings I have received to help me through the most unbearable trials in my life, and how indebted I am to encourage others that there is indeed “light” on the other side of that dark tunnel if we just hold on. Faith, precious friends and family, and all the resources that helped me regain my failing health since 2010 have been invaluable to my physical healing and delivery from depression. It was tremendously empowering to realize that I could exert some control over my failing health through dietary and lifestyle change.
The extensive research I did helped me “connect the dots”, and inspired my husband and me to make some drastic changes to our diet that continue to pay dividends seven years later, well into our sixties. My mission is to “pay it forward”, and share those tools and resources with you in hopes that you, too, will have your “lightbulb” moment, and be willing to put forth the time and energy it takes to see those positive results you desire in your life. For me, it was the realization that it was possible to avoid and even reverse health issues like diabetes, heart disease, auto-immune conditions, high blood pressure, and even certain cancers—diseases I formally believed we naturally acquired with age or were genetically pre-disposed to. The epiphany came when I heard this quote from renowned Cleveland Clinic heart surgeon Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr.-- “Genetics loads the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger.”
Everyone deserves the opportunity to make informed decisions regarding their health care-many have gone the traditional route, and like us, been disillusioned with the medical options and prescription medications with their awful side-effects. While many feel the changes needed are too drastic, I want to assure you that the sacrifice is minimal when compared to the enormous joy that is possible from restored health. For me, overcoming chronic insomnia and regaining my severely failing memory, as well as a host of other problems has given me my life back. I get to enjoy my husband and beautiful family, and greater quality of life as I age. I am optimistic, productive, and physically active—instead of helplessly deteriorating from the likes of dementia, as I previously envisioned.
We would love to encourage you on your health journey in 2018—there is no time like the present to get started. While serious illness requires a more aggressive approach, even minimal changes can make a difference. We have found that there are many ways to “eat an elephant”, but the best way is “one bite at a time”. We want to provide you a "roadmap" for success to assist you as you embark on your health journey.
Remember, "Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels!"
